How to turn Instagram messages into sales
Fast replies, ready answers and a clear next step: how a small business can turn 'How much?' messages into bookings and orders.
For many local businesses in Georgia, Instagram messages are the real sales channel. People do not fill in forms; they write 'How much?' or 'Do you have it in size M?' And then, too often, they wait hours for an answer, lose interest and buy somewhere else.
You do not need a sales team to fix this. You need speed, a few ready answers and the habit of always offering the next step.
Speed beats perfection
Someone who messages you is interested right now. In a few hours they may have found another salon or ordered from another shop. A short, quick reply is worth more than a perfect reply in the evening.
- Turn on message notifications on the phone of whoever handles messages.
- Agree who answers and when, especially at weekends and during busy hours.
- If you cannot answer fully, send a quick holding reply: Thank you, I will check the sizes and reply within an hour.
- Set an away message or auto-reply if the tools available to your account allow it, telling people when you will respond.
Prepare saved replies for common questions
Look at your last fifty messages. Most of them repeat the same five to ten questions. Write a good answer to each one once and save it in your phone notes or in Instagram's saved replies feature, if your account has it.
Typical ones:
- Prices and what is included.
- Opening hours and address, with a map link.
- Delivery: areas, cost, timing, payment.
- How to book, and what information you need.
- Sizes, availability, colours.
Keep them friendly, not robotic, and always personalise the first line with the person's name or their exact question.
Always answer the price question properly
Price questions are buying signals. Replying 'Sent you a DM' to a public comment, or ignoring the question, frustrates people. A good reply gives the price, explains briefly what it includes and moves to the next step:
Hello Nino! The full manicure with gel polish is 60 GEL and takes about 1.5 hours, including cuticle care. We have free slots on Thursday at 12:00 and 16:00. Would one of those suit you?
Notice the structure: greeting, price, value, a specific question that is easy to answer. That last line is what turns a question into a booking.
Lead the conversation to a decision
Many chats die because the business answers the question and stops. Always end with a simple next step:
- Offer two concrete options instead of an open question: Thursday at 12:00 or Friday at 15:00?
- Ask for the information you need: Which size and which city should we deliver to?
- Make payment and confirmation clear: how to pay, what happens next, when it arrives.
- Confirm in writing: date, time, address, price. It reduces no-shows and misunderstandings.
Follow up without being annoying
If someone asked and went quiet, one polite follow-up is fine, ideally with something useful: We still have your size in stock until Saturday, shall I reserve it? One reminder is helpful; three is spam. After a booking, a short reminder the day before is usually welcome.
After the purchase, a thank-you message and a gentle request for a review or a tagged story can bring the next customer.
Organise, track and protect
- Use labels, folders or stars in your inbox, if available, to mark new leads, waiting for payment and completed.
- Keep a simple list or spreadsheet of orders that came from messages, so you see how much Instagram actually brings.
- Never ask customers to send full card details in messages; use proper payment links or pay on site.
- Answer in the customer's language when you can. Many businesses in Georgia receive messages in Georgian, Russian and English.
A clear profile reduces the number of basic questions. Our guides to writing a bio and using highlights help with that.
Start this week
- Decide who answers messages and set response hours.
- Write saved replies for your five most common questions.
- End every reply with a concrete next step.
- Add prices and a booking link to highlights to cut repeat questions.
- Track how many sales come from messages this month.
Messages convert best when your feed gives people a reason to write in the first place. If keeping posts regular takes too much of your time, SocialAI can handle the publishing, so you can spend that time answering customers.
