How to write Instagram captions that sell (without sounding salesy)
A simple caption structure for local businesses: hook, details, proof and a clear next step, with ready examples to adapt.
The photo makes people stop. The caption makes them act. Yet most business captions are either a single word (Delicious!) or a wall of adjectives that nobody finishes. Neither one brings a booking or an order.
A selling caption does not need to be clever or long. It needs to tell the right person what they get, why it is worth it and what to do next. Here is a structure you can reuse every time.
The first line does most of the work
Instagram shows only the beginning of a caption before the reader taps to see more. That first line has to earn the tap. Good first lines are specific and speak to the reader:
- New this week: pumpkin cheesecake, only on weekends.
- Need a table for 12 on Saturday? We still have one.
- The haircut that takes 10 minutes to style in the morning.
- Your guests from abroad will ask where you found these.
Avoid starting with your business name, with Hello everyone, or with a long preamble. Get to the point.
A simple structure: hook, details, proof, action
- Hook. One line that names the product, offer or problem.
- Details. What exactly it is: ingredients, size, duration, price, availability. Concrete facts sell better than adjectives.
- Proof or story. A short reason to believe: how you make it, who makes it, a customer reaction you actually received.
- Action. One clear next step: book via the link, message us, call, come by before 18:00.
That is it. Four parts, often five or six short lines in total.
Examples you can adapt
Café
New this week: pumpkin cheesecake, baked every morning.
Soft, not too sweet, with a ginger biscuit base. 14 GEL a slice, whole cakes to order.
Our pastry chef Mariam tested this recipe for three weeks before she was happy with it.
Available Friday to Sunday in Vake. Message us to reserve a whole cake.
Salon
Two free slots this Thursday for a full manicure.
Gel polish, cuticle care and shaping, about 1.5 hours, 60 GEL.
All tools are sterilised after every client, and you can watch us do it.
Book through the link in our profile or reply here.
Shop
Looking for a gift that is actually from Georgia?
Hand-painted ceramic cups by a Kutaisi artist, each one slightly different. 45 GEL, gift box included.
We ship anywhere in Georgia within a few days.
Send us a message with the city and we will reserve one for you.
Write for one person
Captions that sell sound like a message to one customer, not an announcement to the public. Use you and we. Imagine the person most likely to buy: a mother planning a birthday, a tourist on their last day in Tbilisi, an office worker looking for a lunch spot. Write to them.
Read it out loud. If it sounds like something you would never say to a customer at the counter, rewrite it.
Details that make people act
- Price or a price range. Hiding prices often means fewer messages, not more.
- Scarcity, but honest. Only on weekends, last three pieces, limited for New Year: only if it is true.
- Time and place. Today until 20:00, in our Saburtalo shop.
- One call to action. Not five options; one clear step.
- Language your customers use. If your audience is mixed, consider writing the main part in one language and a short line in a second.
Mistakes to avoid
- Writing only emojis or one word.
- Words like best, high quality, unique without any proof.
- Every post ending with buy now. Mix selling posts with useful and behind-the-scenes posts.
- Burying the key information in the middle of a long text.
- Promising results you cannot guarantee, especially for health, beauty and clinic services.
For hashtags at the end of a caption, see our guide to using hashtags on Instagram today.
Start this week
- Pick your best-selling product or service.
- Write a caption using hook, details, proof, action.
- Check that the first line makes sense on its own.
- Add the price and one clear next step.
- Post it with a good photo and compare the messages you get with your usual posts.
Writing good captions several times a week takes time. SocialAI writes captions in Georgian, Russian or English based on your business profile, and every post appears in your panel 48 hours ahead so you can edit it. You can try it here.
