Instagram story highlights as a mini website for your business
Turn the circles under your bio into a menu, price list, reviews and directions that answer customer questions before they ask.
Stories disappear after a day, but highlights stay on your profile, right under the bio. For a small business without a proper website, they are the closest thing to one: a menu, a price list, directions and reviews, all one tap away.
Most local businesses either ignore highlights or fill them with random old stories. Here is how to plan them so they answer customer questions and save you time in messages.
Why highlights matter for a local business
Think about the questions you answer in messages every week. How much does it cost? Where exactly are you? Do you deliver? Are you open on Sunday? Each of these can be answered once, in a highlight, and then pointed to forever.
Highlights also build trust. A visitor who sees real reviews, real photos of your space and a clear price list is much more likely to book than one who sees only polished product shots.
The essential highlights
You do not need many. Five to seven well-organised highlights are better than fifteen messy ones. Start with these:
- Menu or Prices. The most-asked question. Clear, readable, current.
- How to find us. A short video from the street to the entrance, the address, parking tips, nearby landmarks.
- Reviews. Screenshots of real customer messages and comments (ask permission or hide names), and reshared stories from customers.
- Our work or Products. Best examples: dishes, haircuts, rooms, finished projects.
- About us. The owner, the team, how you started. People like to buy from people.
- Booking or Delivery. Step-by-step how to order or book, payment options, delivery areas.
- Offers or Seasonal. Current promotions, holiday menus, new arrivals.
Examples by business type
Café or restaurant
Menu, Breakfast, Desserts, Events, How to find us, Reviews. A restaurant near the Old Town in Tbilisi could add a highlight in English for tourists explaining Georgian dishes on the menu.
Salon or clinic
Prices, Before and after, Team, Hygiene, Booking, Reviews. For clinics, keep medical claims careful and general, and show the space, the team and how booking works rather than promising results.
Shop
New in, Catalogue, Sizes, Delivery, Payment, Reviews. A clothes shop could add a size guide so customers stop asking the same questions in messages.
Hotel or guesthouse
Rooms, Breakfast, Location, Things to do nearby, How to book, Reviews. Guests in Batumi or Kazbegi love a short guide to the area.
How to make highlights readable
- One topic per highlight. Do not mix the menu with a birthday party.
- Short and current. Delete outdated stories: old prices and expired offers do real damage.
- Text that is large enough to read on a small phone, with good contrast.
- Clear first slide. The first story in each highlight should say what is inside, for example Prices, updated autumn 2026.
- Short names. Highlight titles are cut off when they are too long. One or two words is ideal.
- Simple covers. Plain icons or solid colours in your brand palette look tidy. Covers are optional, though; clear names matter more than design.
Languages and tourists
If you serve both locals and tourists, you have two simple options. Either add text in two languages on each story, or create a separate highlight for visitors, for example Info EN or For guests. Do not try to fit three languages on one slide; it becomes unreadable. Pick what most of your customers speak and add the rest where it really helps.
Keep them alive
Highlights are not a one-time job. Put a 15-minute reminder in your calendar once a month:
- Check prices and opening hours.
- Remove expired offers.
- Add two or three fresh reviews.
- Update seasonal highlights for holidays such as New Year, Easter or Tbilisoba.
Good photos make highlights look professional. If your product shots are not great, our free AI photo tool can turn a phone picture into a clean, studio-style image you can use in stories.
Start this week
- List the five questions customers ask most often in messages.
- Create one highlight answering each of them.
- Add a How to find us video and a Reviews highlight.
- Delete or archive any outdated stories in existing highlights.
- Next time someone asks a common question, reply briefly and point them to the highlight.
Highlights handle the permanent information; your regular posts keep people coming back. If you want posts going out on a steady schedule without spending evenings on it, SocialAI can prepare and publish them for you. Read also how often a small business should post.
