Facebook or Instagram: Where Are Your Customers in Georgia?

How to decide which platform deserves most of your time, based on your customers, your product and how people contact you.

SSocialAI team

Most small business owners feel they should be everywhere, and then end up posting nowhere consistently. The real question is not which platform is better in general, but where your particular customers spend time and how they like to contact you.

This article gives you a simple way to decide where to focus, and how to run both without doubling your work.

How the two platforms feel different

Facebook and Instagram belong to the same company and share many tools, but people use them in different moods.

  • Facebook is where people read longer posts, join neighbourhood and interest groups, check opening hours, leave reviews and send a message with a practical question. In Georgia it is also widely used by older customers and by many Russian-speaking audiences.
  • Instagram is more visual and faster. People scroll photos, short videos and stories, follow places that look good and save ideas for later. It tends to be stronger with younger customers and with tourists looking for places to eat, stay or shop.

These are tendencies, not rules. Your own audience is what counts.

Ask four questions about your business

1. Who is your typical customer?

A pharmacy in Kutaisi serving families and older people will likely find more of its customers on Facebook. A specialty coffee bar in Vera or a nail studio in Vake probably has a younger crowd that lives on Instagram.

2. How visual is your product?

Desserts, clothes, interiors, manicure, hotel rooms: these sell with pictures, which gives Instagram an edge. Services like accounting, repairs or driving lessons need more explanation, and longer Facebook posts suit them well.

3. How do customers contact you?

Look at the last month. If most questions came through Facebook Messenger and phone calls, that is where your customers are. If they came through Instagram direct messages, the answer is just as clear.

4. Do you rely on tourists?

Guest houses in Batumi, wine bars in Sighnaghi and tour operators often get discovered on Instagram through photos, locations and stories. Facebook still matters for reviews and for group travellers who plan through groups.

Check your own numbers before deciding

Opinions are less useful than your own data. Spend fifteen minutes on this:

  1. Open the insights for both accounts and compare how many people your posts reached over the last month.
  2. Count messages on each platform for the same period.
  3. Ask new customers for two weeks: where did you find us? Write the answers down.
  4. Look at which posts brought real actions such as calls, bookings or visits, not just likes.

After two weeks, you will usually see a clear leader. That is your main platform.

Our recommendation for most local businesses

For most cafés, salons, shops and small hotels in Georgia, the practical answer is: be present on both, but choose one main platform.

  • On the main platform, post regularly, reply to every message quickly and try new formats.
  • On the second platform, publish the same core posts, adapted slightly, and make sure your contact details and hours are correct.

Both platforms can be connected so that you manage them from one place. If you have not done that yet, follow our guide on how to connect Facebook and Instagram.

How to post on both without double work

You do not need separate content for each platform. Create one post and adapt it:

  • Same photo, different text length. On Facebook, add details: price, address, how to order. On Instagram, keep the caption shorter and let the picture speak.
  • Same video, both places. A short vertical video works as a Reel and on Facebook.
  • Language mix. If your Facebook audience is more Russian-speaking and your Instagram more Georgian and English, adjust the caption language, not the whole idea.
Facebook: New autumn menu at our Vake café. Pumpkin soup 14 GEL, mushroom khachapuri 18 GEL. Open daily 9:00-22:00, Chavchavadze Ave. Call or message to book a table.
Instagram: The autumn menu is here. Pumpkin soup and mushroom khachapuri, from today in Vake.

If even this takes too much time, SocialAI publishes on both Facebook and Instagram on a schedule you choose, and you review each post in the panel before it goes live.
