Facebook Events for Promotions, Openings and Tastings
How a local business can use Facebook events to fill a room: what to create, how to write it and how to remind people.
A normal post is seen for a day and then disappears in the feed. An event stays visible until the date, lets people say they are interested and can remind them when the day comes. For an opening, a wine tasting, a master class or a holiday market, that difference matters.
Here is how to use Facebook events properly, without turning every small discount into an event nobody attends.
When an event makes sense
Create an event when something happens at a specific time and you want people to show up or tune in:
- Openings of a new café, branch or showroom.
- Tastings and workshops: a wine evening, a churchkhela master class, a coffee cupping.
- Live music, quiz nights, kids' parties.
- Seasonal sales with clear start and end dates, for example before New Year or around Mother's Day on 3 March.
- Online events such as a live Q&A with your chef or stylist.
Do not create an event for a regular everyday discount. If it is always available, a normal post is enough. Too many events teach people to ignore them.
Set up the event properly
Create the event from your Page, not from your personal profile, so it is clearly linked to your business. Then fill in the details carefully:
- A clear name. Say what it is: Georgian Wine Tasting with Our Sommelier is better than Special Evening.
- Exact date and time, including an end time.
- Location with a correct map pin. Add a note on how to find the entrance or parking if it is tricky.
- A cover image that shows the experience: glasses on a table, the dish, the space. Avoid heavy text on the image.
- Co-hosts, if you run the event with a partner such as a winery or a local artist. Their followers may see it too.
- Ticket or booking link, if there is one, or clear instructions to book by phone or message.
Write a description that answers every question
People decide quickly. Put the most important information first, then the details.
- What happens and why it is worth coming.
- Price, or a clear statement that it is free.
- Whether booking is required and how to book.
- Who it is for: adults only, family friendly, beginners.
- Language, if relevant for tourists or expats.
Join us on Friday at 19:00 for an evening of Kakhetian wines with our sommelier. Five wines, cheese and bread, 45 GEL per person. Places are limited to 20, so please book by message or phone. The tasting is in Georgian and English.
Promote it in the right rhythm
Creating the event is only the start. Plan a few touchpoints:
- Two to three weeks before: create the event and share it on your Page with a short post.
- One week before: post a photo or video of preparation, a menu or the guest.
- Two or three days before: a reminder post with the booking details and how many places are left, if that is true.
- On the day: a short story or post saying tonight, with the time.
- After the event: thank the guests and share photos. This is also the best advertising for your next event.
You can share the event in relevant local groups if their rules allow it. See our guide on using local Facebook groups without spamming. Invite your existing customers personally through Messenger, WhatsApp or Viber too: a personal invitation usually works better than any public post.
Should you boost the event?
For an important event like an opening, a small paid promotion to people nearby can help. Keep it modest and targeted to your area, for example a few days with a budget of around 30-60 GEL as a test, and see how many people respond. There is no guaranteed result, so start small. Our article on boosting a post explains when it is worth it.
Common mistakes
- Creating the event only two days before. People plan their weekends earlier.
- Forgetting the price or how to book. Every unanswered question loses guests.
- Counting interested clicks as real guests. Many people click interested and never come, so plan seats based on actual bookings.
- No follow-up post afterwards. You lose the chance to show how good it was.
Start this week
- Look at your next month and pick one real occasion: a holiday, a new product, a tasting.
- Create the event from your Page with a clear name, time, price and booking method.
- Plan four posts around it: announce, prepare, remind, thank.
- Personally invite twenty of your regular customers.
If you want the announcement and reminder posts written and scheduled for you, SocialAI already follows the Georgian holiday calendar and lets you review every post before it goes out.
